Test of English as a Foreign Language

A standardized test called the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is used to assess how well non-native English speakers can communicate in English. Universities and colleges in the US and many other English-speaking nations use it widely as a component of their admissions procedure for international students. The TOEFL test evaluates a person’s ability to comprehend and communicate in English in a classroom setting.

Tests administered on the TOEFL come in two primary categories:

The most often used format for the TOEFL is the iBT (Internet-Based Test). It assesses proficiency in four areas: speaking, writing, listening, and reading.

The TOEFL PBT (Paper-Based Test) is a less popular version that is mainly utilized in locations without access to the internet. It has elements for reading comprehension, writing structure and expression, listening, and an essay.

Test Areas:

  • Reading: Tests your capacity to comprehend and evaluate written material.
  • Listening: Tests your ability to understand spoken English.
  • Speaking: Tests your ability to talk in English on a variety of subjects.
  • Writing: Examines your writing abilities, particularly your capacity for essay writing.

The TOEFL is assessed on a scale of 0 to 30 for each section.
